Feast of the Holy Innocents Faith and Resistance Retreat

On Friday, Dec. 28, on the Feast of the Holy Innocents, we went to the Department of Extinction, otherwise known as the Department of Energy. The DOE is responsible for development of new generations of nuclear weapons.

Simulating the sham DOE briefing of late, Bill Streit played the DOE director, His Eminence, as he attempted to defend its death dealing programs with the ever-present aid of Fox News. Bernadette, Fox News reporter, and Maura, cheerleader for Fox News, broadcast the lies of the DOE director as news. Bernadette and Maura Ryder-O'Neil live at the Martin de Porres Catholic Worker in Raleigh, North Carolina.

The UN director, with a much smaller podium, and even less power, speaks for humanity. Amber Christis from Camden House in Philadelphia was the UN Representative. The UN Rep. tried to counter the lies of the DOE Director. Art Laffin from Dorothy Day Catholic Worker, Washington D.C., holds the bullhorn....

Leah Grady-Savetz, from Ithaca, N.Y., and Josh Cohen hold fact sheets that counter the statements of His Eminence, the Director of the DOE.

About 20 of us went inside where there is a display lauding the glories and history of nuclear weapons which included a missile and a timeline of weapon testing and use. Nate Buchanan from the New Jerusalem Now Community corrects the exhibit by including a picture of a charred body from the bombing of Hiroshima.

We asked to talk to a representative of the DOE about the display. The display omits any reference to the destruction of life and environment caused by the production and use of weapons of mass destruction.

The human effects of these weapons are left out of the exhibit.
