What an amazing day!!! In an attempt to bring the names of Guantanamo prisoners, who have been held five years without charges and without benefit of the protection of the Geneva Conventions, 100 people went into the DC Federal Court Building, and occupied the atrium. Putting on orange shirts that said "Shut Down Guantanamo", and holding banners, the occupiers read life stories of the prisoners, and read from scripture. US Marshalls eventually arrested 89 of those who where urging the court to uphold the constitution and give the men in Guantanamo a day in court. Most of those arrested did not have ID with them, and they had planned to give the name of a Guantanamo prisoner to the police or to the court. The US Marshalls eventually release everyone at the end of the work day, after filling out a citation with whatever information was given to them. The citations were never processed, as it turned out. Meanwhile, while some were getting into the courthouse, preparing to occupy the atrium, hundreds of other people met at Upper Senate Park and walked, in orange jump suits, to the Supreme Court and to the Federal Court. Many of these marchers tried to get into the court house to join the occupation, but the Marshalls frantically locked the doors to keep them out.
