And they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks… Isaiah 2:4.
Celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the Plowshares 8!
30 Years Ago...On September 9, 1980 , eight religious peace and anti-nuclear weapons activists entered a General Electric (now: Lockheed Martin) plant in King of Prussia and hammered on and “disarmed” Mark 12A nuclear warhead casings. They were called the Plowshares 8. The following spring in the Montgomery County Court in Norristown, PA., all were found guilty of burglary, conspiracy, and criminal mischief. Nearly seventy-five "swords into plowshares actions" have occurred over the past thirty years across the country and in Europe, many involving long prison sentences for its participants.
30 Years Ago... The Brandywine Peace Community provided the initial organizing and support for the Plowshares 8 as well as the similar GE 5 action in October, 1981.
Now, 30 Years Later, on Labor Day weekend, September 5, in King of Prussia, PA... the Brandywine Peace Community invites you to join with the Atlantic Life Community, and other peacemakers, to publicly celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the Plowshares 8, and to re-dedicated ourselves to the works of justice and peace, stopping Lockheed Martin (world's largest war profiteer and the U.S.'s chief nuclear weapons contractor), abolishing nuclear weapons, and ending war.
