A GIFT WAS GIVEN TO THE WORLD

"They shall beat their swords into plowshares
Spears into pruning hooks
Nations shall not wage war against nation
Nor shall they study war anymore"

WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION HERE PLOWSHARES

On Tuesday, June 20, 2006  Greg Boertje-Obed, Michael Walli and Fr. Carl Kabot OMI, began the diarmament and conversion process of one of the deadliest weapons of mass destruction through their plowshare witness.

Using household hammers, they hammered on the concrete lid covering the missile silo which houses the Minuteman III nuclear missile. They poured their blood to make visible the bloodshed resulting from the manufacturing, testing and use of nuclear weapons.

Dressed as clowns, the three offered the gift of healing through their willingness to be "fools for God and humanity". With humor and laughter, they hoped to transform the structures of destruction and death.

This action is a gift to humanity. It offers all of us a moment in time in which the cycles of violence were broken through disarmament and transformation. With committment and resolve, the moment can continue.

Greg, Michael and Carl have been charged with 2 misdemeanors; criminal tresspass and criminal mischief and are being held in Washburn North Dakota. A pretrial hearing is set for July 5, 2006 and a trial date is expected to be set for sometime in late July or August.

Letters can be sent to the three at:

McLean County Jail
POBox 1108
Washburn ND 58577

It's a great opportunity to thank and assure them that we will use this gift of disarmament as the cornerstone to build the beloved commuity.
