Llamas Arrive For Advent 2004

Kevin Jones, master builder,
in front of llama/goat shed.
We are planning for Christmas Eve at the manger!.

David and Sally Daneker bring two llamas from their farm in Hydes, MD to Jonah House. Neighbors Norman Emanuel and Alex come for the welcome.
David Daneker demonstrates the procedure and gives the llamas a worming shot.
Holding tight, Susan Crane tries to make the acquaintance of the older female llama. It may be obvious, but the llama is not quite ready to be a close friend. The llamas have an important job at the cemetery: they will guard the goats against wild dogs, fox and coyote. The goats and llamas will eat brush including poison ivy, grape vines, multiflora rose and honeysuckle bush.
David leads the llamas into the pasture. The young male llama is not at all accustomed to halter and lead; we have our work cut out for us (and we have a lot of learning to do!).
It was a perfect day for them to arrive. The sun was bright and the day filled with promise.
David continues the lessons - now to release the llamas and store the halters and leads. It will take some taming to enable us - and the people who come to Jonah House - to be able to work with them.
Checking out his new home.
And learning each other - they had not been pastured
together before their arrival here.
